Welcome to Magic the Gathering!

Hand of cards

Welcome to Magic the Gathering, a tabletop card playing game where you can wield magic and summon powerful creatures to defeat your opponents! Magic the Gathering (MTG for short) is played with two or more players (also known as Planewalkers, powerful wizards that can travel between realms, according to the games lore).

The game was invented by Richard Garfield and was released in the early 90's by Wizards of the Coast. There are currently over fifty million players worldwide and the game has recently expanded into the digital realm of video games and can can be enjoyed online.

The purpose of the game is to battle against other players and get their health down to zero. This is accomplished by using a deck of cards to summon creatures and use magic against your opponent. An important aspect of MTG is the strategy involved via the various decks of cards themselves. Players can use pre-built decks, or customize their own, to try to gain an advantage over their opponents deck. Whether you're looking for some tough competition or you just want a fun night with friends, you can't go wrong with MTG!

Besides the strategic element to the game, there's also the collection aspect. Each card has varying degrees of rarity and finding a rare card in the wild is extremely satisfying. The rarer the card, the more powerful it tends to be. Having rare cards not only adds a degree of bragging rights, it can also offer some enticing resale value at your local game shop. On top of all that, there's also a very extensive and interesting lore to the game, filled with epic storylines. Although understanding the lore isn't required to play the game, it does add a lot of depth and enhances the experience!
